Warts, of any kind, forget the doctor, head to the kitchen

Warts were not something my family had ever had, I had no experience with them until I had my children.  But thanks to my wonderful family doctor I learned an inexpensive, chemical-free way to get rid of them completely and permanently.

It doesn’t matter if you have a common wart or a plantar wart, for less than $1. you will have quick relief.

My children each encountered a problem with warts.  My youngest was born with a wart on his  thumb, I freaked to say the least.  My doctor told me not to worry when he was a little older it could be removed.   My son was a thumb sucker, guess which thumb he sucked?  So I was afraid to do any thing about it until he started school.

While waiting to have the now-spreading warts on my son’s  hand removed my oldest found a plantar wart on his foot.  ( At this time I began to really wonder what I was doing wrong as a mother)  I took him to the family doctor who then sent us to a specialist to have the wart cut out of his foot.  He was unable to walk on his foot for a couple of days.  Watching him hop around was quite entertaining yet  sad.

Finally I took my youngest to the doctor.  I absolutely love her.  She knows I prefer to use natural remedies when ever possible and quickly disappeared down the hallway to ask her father, a fellow doctor,  what their aunt used for warts.

She returned with two possible treatments for me, insisting she didn’t want to chemically treat or freeze his skin. The answer was household bleach or garlic.  My son reacted to the bleach, it burned his skin.  So I turned to the garlic.

Garlic to the rescue

It worked!  I simply sliced a garlic clove into nearly 20 pieces to set on each of the warts on his hand.  Then I secured them in place with tape and sent him off to bed.  I forgot the next night, the following night he spent at a friends.  Finally, remembering to apply the garlic I found that he had less than 5 left, which were considerably smaller.  The last treatment cured him of the problem and he’s never had another wart.

Could it possibly work on plantar warts?

A few years ago I found a plantar wart on the heel of my left foot.  I remembered my son having his cut out and how he wasn’t permitted to walk on his foot.  I couldn’t do that.  I’m disabled and would never be able to get around without full use of both my feet.  I put off going to the doctor and my wart multiplied and spread to cover the entire heel of my foot.

With the warts becoming painful to walk on I knew I had to do something and remembered the garlic. I decided it wouldn’t hurt to try much to my surprise  IT WORKED.

Instead of slicing the garlic,  I crushed the cloves and spread it  on to a gauze pad which I then secured with tape to the heel of my foot.  I applied this two nights in a row, then stopped to see what would happen.  At this time the only way to describe what my heel looked like is to saw it reminded me of wrinkled fingers from being in water and appeared almost raw, yet I had very little discomfort. No more than I had been having walking on these warts.

A week later I took a good look to see if it had worked at all and which areas I would try to apply the garlic to again.  They were all gone, every last one of them.  My heel no longer appeared wrinkly or raw and there were no scars or signs there had ever been anything wrong with it.  The garlic worked all the way to the “root” deep underneath the surface of the skin.   It has been three years and I’ve had no further problems.

What do you have to lose?

You can pay your doctor to have your warts frozen, chemically burned, or even cut out.  You can pay for over-the-counter remedies which I have heard rarely work, or you can stop in your produce section at your favorite grocery store and pick up one head of garlic.  Total cost, less than a dollar and no side effects.

Do you have a story of garlic’s healing powers?  I’d love to hear how you use garlic.

update:

I had no idea how many people would read this or how many places on a body a wart could show up.  Some people have commented that crushing a clove of garlic has left burns and blisters on their skin.  Most of the people who have experienced this have placed the garlic on their face, near the eyes or other sensitive areas.  If you aren’t sure how your skin may react try rubbing the garlic on your skin, then leave it exposed while you sleep and see if this will work for you first.

    • Fungai, your face will heal but don’t apply any more garlic for now. The skin around your eyes is the thinnest on our bodies and therefore the garlic was able to get under the skin quickly. You should see improvement soon.

  4. Hello, I tried this and like many others who posted comments my skin burned and even blistered. I think what’s not very clear in your recommendation is that the garlic should *only be rubbed on the wart* then covered overnight, NOT left on top of the wart and covered for peolonged periods. Several people mentioned burns. I don’t think this is because of sensitive skin or a sign that the garlic is working. My wart is on my waist and I had the same negative result. Please update your article so that its more clear and less people burn themselves following your advice.

    • Jeanette, thank you for your suggestion. I wrote this to explain the method my family physician recommended to me. I am quite surprised by the number of people who have found this article as I had no idea so many people suffered from warts. I have taken your suggestion and added a warning for future readers.

  5. I have warts on my face… some on the right cheek and some on the chin. I have been to the doc and had the freezing treatment done. It helped but the warts keep coming back as I have to shave. That results in cuts even if I am careful and it spreads. I am trying tea tree oil for couple of months now but seems like that treatment is slow. Do you think I should try garlic now? I want to get rid of these so bad. I have stopped looking myself in the mirror now :((

    • BigB, I can only give you my opinion based on what I would do, and I am in no way a doctor, so use your judgement. What I would do is to give my skin a break to allow the tea tree oil to be fully gone from under the surface of my skin, at least a week, then I would use the garlic.

      • BAD NEWS! I am to be blamed as I should have read more before using garlic on face. There are tons of notes where garlic is responsible for second degree burns. May be garlic worked for some but not for me. My skin burnt and it hurts like CRAZYYYYY. I can’t go to work either; as it’s on my face. My advice to whoever has not tried garlic yet is that DON’T USE IT. Consult a dermatologist instead. My dermatologist said she cannot treat the warts yet as the skin has to recover from this trauma first. She has given me antibiotic gel to apply on face with one more cream and she has said that there won’t be any scar but it will take a while. HTH!

          • I tried this method on my hand without doing much research and my crushed garlic burnt my finger around the wart. Then few months later it came back. This time I covered my skin around the wart and made sure garlic only touched my wart. I missed just a tiny spot where I got a painful blister but it will go away. So the healthy skin just need to be covered.

          • Hi Vic, I’m sorry your skin was burned in the first application. I also believe your wart didn’t completely heal from the one application which is why it came back. I found at least two applications to be necessary.

You seem to be very sensitive to the garlic, you may want to apply it without crushing the clove. For my son I simply sliced the clove and set a small slice on each of his warts and even being very fair skinned and young it didn’t burn his skin. Good luck to you.

      • Hi,
I am 19 years old boy and I have had two dots on the top of my forehead for maybe 2 years and never really known what it was. But then, a couple a weeks ago these dots spread across my forehead and in to my hairline. I have not tried any other treatments, and hopefully I will not need to. My questions is if you think it makes any difference if I’m rubbing the garlic on the warts three times a day, or if I attach the garlic to the warts?
Thank you so much for your help!

        • Hi William, I’m sorry you have to deal with warts especially on your forehead. Since the skin on the face is the thinnest on the body I would recommend you simply rub a slice of garlic on the spot over a couple of days (2-3) then wait a week and see how they are doing. If they haven’t shrunk completely repeat the process giving the garlic time in between to do its work. The garlic will heal your wart from the inside out so don’t panic if you don’t see immediate improvement.

  6. Trying the garlic treatment as we speak. Troed the freezing. However the wart planters was so large and painful my dr. Wanted to send me to have it cut out. I was not going that route. Apon reading many sites re warts. I found one comment that said to add coconut oil as it is a carrier oil and will help the garlic travel deeper.Do you have any thought on this. I have tried both and find I can leave the garlic on longer with the coconut oil as it hurts less. Do you think it will be less effective thanks

    Like

    • Janette, I had never heard of using coconut oil with the garlic but I don’t see why it wouldn’t help.. Raw coconut oil (not the processed oil) is I believe anti bacterial and antiviral so it should add another form of healing to your warts.

I am very interested in hearing how this works for you. My plantar warts covered my left heel and after two applications of the garlic slowly shrunk until after a few weeks I went to take a close look and see how they were doing and they were gone. Just don’t expect them to heal overnight it takes a few days to a couple of weeks to resolve a plantar wart.

  7. Just want y’all to know I put the garlic on my plantar warts and I saw immediate results. I developed them just a week ago and before they could grow too much I found this website. I had about 3 or 4. One big and 3 smaller ones on my heel. I put sliced garlic on my foot for two hours one night and saw that it was reduced in size and almost peeling the next day. I put it on again last night for the same amount of time and this morning the warts are nearly gone. My skin didn’t burn or have any reaction. I think that only happens if you put it on an area of sensitive skin. Anyways, thank you for posting this article, it saved me a trip to the doctor to get them frozen off which I’m sure is very painful!

I saw a dermatologist for years and he cut, and froze them, and i tried duct take, banana peel, dandelion milk, zinc, tea tree oil, and acid. Galic pills worked for me. Great part is you can have one hiding somewhere you dont notice. This has killed them all.

  9. I am so thankful that I found this! I have had a plantar wart on the ball of my right foot that I have been treating unsuccessfully with salicylic acid and ACV for months. The only thing those treatments did was stop the pain–a bit too late, perhaps, because I had already developed severe ankle, knee, and hip pain from the wart that is still ocurring despite medical intervention and several painkiller prescriptions. However, after I read your article I sped over to the nearest Walgreens and bought 1,000 mg garlic capsules (100 ct for about 6 bucks). I took two, and now just six hours later my wart is already turning black. This is faster improvement than I have seen with months of acid treatment.
I’m expecting the wart to be gone within the next week or so, and afterward I plan to seek more medical treatment for the constant pain in my leg.
Thank you so much for bringing garlic treatment to my attention. You saved my life for my upcoming senior year of high school.

Thank you so much for sharing your story, I have only recently heard through the comments that garlic pills work the same as placing garlic externally on the warts. Good to know there is another way to safely treat them.

Good luck to you with pain management, I hope your doctor can help you with it. Enjoy your last year of high school too. 😉

      • Do you happen to know what the signs of a healing plantar wart are? Mine is still black from the garlic pills, and the surface has become rougher and it sort of tingles/itches. I think these are signs that it is dying but I’m not completely sure.

        Like

        • Caitlyn, I have never tried the garlic pills to attempt to heal a wart so your signs would be different from mine or my son’s. For us they simply shrunk although my plantar warts were irritated from the garlic for a couple of days.

I did experience tingling and something similar to itching as my warts healed so I would say your body is working to heal them.

    • I wouldn’t use garlic on my eyelid. You said you are not sure they are warts so I would first determine what they are before any treatment. Some people are having good luck taking garlic pills and I include both garlic and onions in my diet for their health benefits so this might be a path you might want to try.

    • I believe the garlic would work on your head but would warn you to be careful of burning the skin as a few people have mentioned burns on their face and other sensitive parts of the body.If you try garlic on your head I would use a slice of garlic first, not minced or pressed garlic as that would control better where the oils would reach. Other people have reported garlic pills have helped but I have not tried that method myself.

As for your daughter, I have no helpful ideas as I’ve never encountered a similar situation to experiment with. Off the top of my head I would say the answer lies in the stress, so she would need to find ways to calm down. Maybe camomile tea with honey (which is anti just about everything) and meditation with deep breathing to calm frayed nerves. My best to you daughter on her special day.

    Like

    • Steph, I do believe garlic would work on your head. I attended cosmetology school myself years ago and can remember how upset I was to let my classmates see I had a dry flaky scalp. It might be hard to get a slice of garlic to stay in place on the wart through your hair so you may want to try making a paste with either garlic powder or minced garlic and apply it directly to the warts. Test an area first for sensitivity and then rinse out if you feel any burning or discomfort. Once you feel discomfort it means the garlic has gotten to the wart and is doing its job. Good luck to you.

  15. Hi, im a 17 year old female and have had a plantar wart on the heel of my foot for a year. Over the past two weeks I have been treating it with special corn remover plasters (only thing I could find that’s cheap) I would leave it on over night and remove before a shower, it made my skin white and brought the wart out. Every night after my shower I would get my dad to cut the skin off (it grew everyday). Now 2 weeks later it is black and hasn’t grown anymore. I used to have so much pain with the wart that with a touch I would almost cry, now I have nothing. Does this mean its dying, or have I just caused blood to go under it? Thanks 🙂

I have never tried using any thing other than garlic on my plantar warts but can tell you that the day after using the garlic the area was white and irritated a few days later it no longer hurt while the garlic oils did it’s work in healing them.

    • I’ve done this for 3 days now, not noticing any difference yet, hoping it just takes awhile longer? Not feeling any stinging or any sensation to the warts that makes it feel like it’s doing anything.

        • Well it took about a month but the wart on my pinkie finger finally came totally off yesterday! Still have two small ones on my ring finger that I need to continue to work on, these are stubborn warts! So glad I tried the garlic! So for others out there who think it’s not working just keep on doing it. I was wearing a bandaid with garlic in day and night , changing the garlic in the morning and again at night. It did make my finger tips peel a bit, but there wasn’t any pain.
          Thanks again

I would add garlic to more of my meals to improve my immunity. I would also try to position a slice of a garlic clove on the affected area for short periods of time. If there is any discomfort I would remove the garlic. I am curious to learn what you do and the results you have.

    • Gigi, I think you will be pleased with how the garlic works. One thing to be aware of and that is to use the garlic only when you won’t be walking around. I first applied the garlic to my plantar wart during the day and walked around doing chores. By evening my foot burned and was raw. It healed but was sensitive for a day or two.
